BSB ranked among Europe’s top schools in 2023

For the fourth consecutive year, the British School of Brussels (BSB) has secured a place among the top 15 private schools in Europe and has been independently ranked in the prestigious Carfax Schools Index, listed among the 125 best private schools worldwide for 2023.

The Schools Index, compiled by Carfax Education in partnership with Spear’s, is the only global guide to leading private schools around the world.

This recognition follows the recent announcement that BSB is one of eight finalists for the prestigious Spear’s School of the Year Award 2023 and a finalist in two categories of the Independent School of the Year Awards.

Melanie Warnes, Principal of BSB, expressed her joy and pride, stating:
“We are thrilled to be recognised internationally. This recognition highlights not only our strong academic results but also our exceptional ethos.
Our students thrive, supported by outstanding professionals and incredibly supportive parents. BSB truly deserves this honour!”

Beyond academic achievements and university preparation, schools are assessed on their unique values, local and international reputation, and their ability to prepare students for life beyond academics.
Fiona McKenzie, Head of Education at Carfax Education, said:
“Now in its fourth year, the Schools Index has quickly become a vital resource for parents seeking the best education for their child—wherever they are in the world—as well as for the private school sector.”

“This year’s guide has been carefully curated by international experts, with each school being recognised for its unique impact on education—including academic strength, facilities, university readiness, distinct ethos, and life preparation,” she added.
“Demand for excellent schools remains high, and competition is fierce, with parents seeking the strongest possible foundation for a lifetime of success.”

Recognition for outstanding exam results

This recognition follows BSB’s outstanding exam results across all post-16 pathways.
In A Levels, students’ achievements added a new chapter to BSB’s academic and creative excellence. Impressively, over half of the grades awarded were between A* and B, with a remarkable 32% achieving the coveted A or A*. These results celebrate individual success and pave the way for future accomplishments.

Equally impressive are the performances of students enrolled in BSB’s BTEC courses. Their exceptional efforts led to 56.5% of all grades being awarded at Distinction or Distinction* level, with a notable 85% achieving Merit or higher.

BSB’s commitment to academic excellence is further validated by its standing as a top-performing IB school. The 2023 cohort continues to enhance BSB’s reputation with strong IB results. Many students exceeded the 40-point threshold, securing spots at globally recognised universities.
