American International Schools in Brussels and Surrounding Areas

International Schools > American Schools

Brussels is home to two international schools offering an education based on the American school system. They primarily serve American expat families or those who wish to maintain continuity with the U.S. curriculum their children followed before relocating to Belgium :

1- The International School of Brussels (ISB), located in Watermael-Boitsfort, also offers the US High School Diploma as part of a broader international programme. With over 1,300 students from 60 nationalities, aged 2.5 to 18, ISB provides English-medium instruction combined with strong multilingual options (French, Dutch, Spanish, Japanese). It offers multiple graduation pathways including IB, AP, and BTEC, and is known for its inclusive philosophy, outstanding campus, and academic excellence.

2 – Brussels Unit School (BUS), formerly known as Brussels American School, is located in Sterrebeek, on the outskirts of Brussels. It is part of the Department of Defense Education Activity school system (DoDEA) and follows the official U.S. curriculum, taught entirely in English from Pre-K through Grade 12. With around 290 students aged 3 to 18, BUS offers a warm, family-oriented environment, small class sizes, and personalised support. Students can earn the US High School Diploma and take Advanced Placement (AP) courses, recognised worldwide.
