Brussels Unit School (formerly Brussels American School – BAS) changed its name in 2025. This international school welcomes 289 students, from Pre-Kindergarten (PK) to 12th grade. Located in a green setting in Sterrebeek, a Dutch-speaking municipality on the outskirts of Brussels, the school offers a nurturing environment for learning and personal development.

The American school was established in Brussels to support the U.S. military and NATO headquarters. It is part of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), a U.S. federal school system with about 150 schools worldwide. The DoDEA headquarters is based in Arlington, Virginia, and operates under the authority of the Secretary of Defense.

In elementary school (PK to 5th grade), students receive a comprehensive education including physical education, languages (French and Dutch), arts, music, IT, and library science.
In middle and high school, the school offers a wide range of subjects designed to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century. An Advanced Placement (AP) programme offers advanced courses in math, science, languages, and world history.

Enrollment conditions | Brussels Unit School
Brussels Unit School primarily serves children of U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) personnel. Admission is based on eligibility criteria established by DoDEA.
The school welcomes dependent children of DoD employees, U.S. federal agency civilians, and under certain conditions, children of defense-related contractors. Enrollment follows a priority system, with children of deployed military personnel admitted first. Other families may be accepted based on available space.
