Complete list of European schools offering the official European curriculum in Brussels and its surrounding areas.
European Schools > European Curriculum
Brussels, as the European capital, hosts four European Schools providing multilingual education primarily to children of European institutions’ employees and, in some cases, to other students depending on availability.
These schools follow a harmonized curriculum recognized by the European Union and award the European Baccalaureate, opening doors to universities in Europe and beyond.
Currently, four official European Schools are established in Brussels (see list below).
A fifth European School is planned: a new institution will open in Neder-Over-Heembeek by 2028 to meet increasing demand.

European Schools offer three educational cycles:
Cycles | Classes | Ages |
---|---|---|
Preschool (Early Education) | 1-2 | Ages 4-5 |
Primary | 1-5 | Ages 6-10 |
Secondary | 1-3 : Observation cycle | Ages 11-13 |
4-5 : Pre-orientation cycle | Ages 14-15 | |
6-7 : European Baccalaureate cycle | Ages 16-18 |
Accredited European Schools: What is the difference?
Accredited European Schools offer European education meeting the pedagogical requirements of the European Schools but within the framework of national education networks of Member States. In other words, accredited European schools are national schools that have signed an accreditation agreement.
In Belgium, the European School Brussels – Argenteuil (EEBA) located in Waterloo is the first accredited European School. It offers a curriculum similar to that of European Schools. However, it is indeed a private national school rather than a public one. As it receives no subsidies from the European Commission or the Belgian government, tuition fees apply.
