Complete list of European schools offering the official European curriculum in Brussels and its surrounding areas.
European Schools > European Curriculum
Brussels, as the capital of the European Union, is home to four official European Schools, primarily serving the children of staff working in the EU institutions, as well as one Accredited European School, EEBA, located just outside the city.
All of these schools follow a harmonised curriculum recognised by the European Union and prepare students for the European Baccalaureate, offering a multilingual and multicultural education that opens access to universities across Europe and beyond.
The four official European Schools are located within Brussels (see list below).
In addition, the European School of Brussels-Argenteuil (EEBA), an Accredited European School, also follows the official European curriculum while operating independently from the subsidised system.
Finally, a fifth official European School is planned: a new campus is scheduled to open in Neder-Over-Heembeek by 2028 to meet the increasing demand.

European Schools offer three educational cycles:
| Cycles | Classes | Ages |
|---|---|---|
| Preschool (Early Education) | 1-2 | Ages 4-5 |
| Primary | 1-5 | Ages 6-10 |
| Secondary | 1-3 : Observation cycle | Ages 11-13 |
| 4-5 : Pre-orientation cycle | Ages 14-15 | |
| 6-7 : European Baccalaureate cycle | Ages 16-18 |
Accredited European Schools: What is the difference?
Accredited European Schools offer European education meeting the pedagogical requirements of the European Schools but within the framework of national education networks of Member States. In other words, accredited European schools are national schools that have signed an accreditation agreement.
In Belgium, the European School Brussels – Argenteuil (EEBA) located in Waterloo is the first accredited European School. It offers a curriculum similar to that of European Schools. However, it is indeed a private national school rather than a public one. As it receives no subsidies from the European Commission or the Belgian government, tuition fees apply.
